THE EDGE AUDITIONS
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
For performers ages 13 and up.
Program runs March - Mid-May.
New Schedule-Friendly Rehearsal Process for our Busy Teens!
Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience.
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.
AUDITIONS Monday, December 9th @ 4:00pm - 8:00pm CALLBACKS Saturday, December 14th @ 9:30am - 1:30pm AUDITION PREPARATION CALLBACK AUDITION MATERIAL The callback materials above are organized in folders labeled by Character Name. Simply click the folder with the character's name on it, and you will find all the callback materials for that character within that folder. Some characters will have 1 or 2 cuts of songs to learn. In addition, some characters will have 2-3 scenes. Within each characters folder, there are Scenes/Sides Folder for any scene-work we may ask for at Callbacks, a Sheet Music /Lyrics Folder (sheet music is marked up accordingly), and a folder labeled "Vocal/Karaoke Tracks." Within that folder, you will find a Vocal Track (to help you to learn the melody) and a Karaoke Track. Please be prepared to sing the songs with the karaoke tracks, but our Musical Director may choose to accompany callbacks for select songs if need-be. While we don't expect callback material to be fully memorized, we do suggest being as familiar/memorized as possible so that you can be physicalizing the character as well as acting the material in your callback. We are looking for fearlessness and boldness in these callbacks, so the more familiar you are, the more direction we can give you. WHAT TO BRING
